Show Me Monday! with Rebecca of Songbead

Welcome to the first of my new Monday posts! Show Me Monday....well, that title will do for this week, but I feel like there should be a better title....can you think of something better for me?!

This week, I am sharing some handmade button finds. Not strictly beads, but I bet everyone reading this has a button or two (or twenty-seven!) about their bead stash. I know I certainly do.

Share your handmade buttony finds in the links below - and why not share any jewellery you've created, using handmade buttons? We'd love to see! Here's a bracelet of mine, featuring a gorgeous handmade pewter button from Mamacita Beadworks:

And now, kick-start your week with the Beadblogger Links:

Show Me Sunday - Back to School! - with Rebecca of Songbead

Happy Sunday, ABS-ers! I hope you are all sliding into Autumn easily enough. The leaves are starting to turn, the weather is cooler - and the rain is very much out in full force over here in the UK!

Autumn is traditionally a month of beginnings - fresh starts and turning over new leaves. This is very much the case for me, as a week ago today, we loaded up the car, drove to the edge of Wales (Holyhead), hopped on a ferry and moved over to Northern Ireland! My partner got a new job over the summer; not much notice or time for us to decide, but we took the leap and here we are :-) I am very much enjoying my new setting so far - we are living on a bustling road, with cafes and shops only a few minutes walk from our house. I have my own studio; a large room with high ceilings, an original fireplace and two large windows....sure, there's no furniture in there quite yet, but there will be! It is likely that (due to my partner's work) we'll only be living here for a year, but I plan to make the most of the fantastic space I have for that year.

And so onto our monthly theme, very apt for this month! Back to school....I'm sharing our trusty leader, Heather Powers' wonderful set of free tutorials - available to all here on her website. Tutorials - whether online, in a magazine or a book - are things with which we all choose to work in different ways. Whether you follow them to the letter, change things up a little, or even just read through them for inspiration, they are great things to get your creative juices and mojo fired up. Heather's tutorials all feature beautiful pictures of the finished items, clear instructions and supplies lists. And there are tons of them - what are you waiting for?! Here's one of them - her Joyful Encounters necklace, in my favourite colour scheme of the moment.

Share your favourite tutorials and other educational tools here on the blog!

And now for the bead blogger links:

Kumihimo obsessed? Lisa is too and hasn't even USED The technique yet. She is sharing a super sparkly project.

Show Me Sunday - Flora Beads with Rebecca of Songbead

Happy Sunday! It's a busy time of year for me, which you'll know if you've read my Studio Saturday post from yesterday. So it'll be short and sweet from me today!

....which is very apt, if you consider the lovely piece of jewellery I'm sharing with you today.

Last week, I announced that we are changing up Show Me Sundays just a little - we don't just want you to share art beads on a theme, but also a piece of jewellery you have created with art beads upon the theme of the month. Monique of A Half-Baked Notion shared this juicy piece, featuring strawberry beads from Hazel of Continuum Designs. Good enough to eat!

Thanks Monique for getting the ball rolling! I'd love to share YOUR design next week, featuring themed beads. Here's the skinny:

I'd like you to share not only handmade beads, but also items of jewellery that YOU have created using art beads that fit the theme. I will select one item of jewellery to share, along with the art beads. You can share a blog link, an etsy link, a flickr link.....whatever works for you! NB The jewellery MUST contain art beads that fit the theme.........there's your challenge for the week! They can be your art beads or another's - they've just got to be in there!

The theme for this month is food, but I'd like to expand on this. Things that grow in the earth. Flora, rather than Fauna, if you get my meaning! So food stuffs, but also plants, wildlife.....let's push the envelope with this one.

So get looking for your jewellery featuring food-y or plantlife art beads! As well as any beads you spy out there. It's good to share!

Here are a few Flora beads that I found on etsy this week.

Watermelon - Kylie Parry

Raspberries - Nikita551

Cilantro Berries - Mary Harding

Fennel - Bo Hulley

And now for the Bead Blogger links. Happy Sunday everyone!

Show Me Sunday - Water Beads with Rebecca of Songbead

Happy Sunday everyone! We've a bit of a bumper post today - as an extension to Thursday's post, I'm showcasing a great number of British bead artists today and their water-themed beads. So without further ado, I will jump into it straight away.

First up, our lovely shares from last week:

I just love the stunning blues of these glazes - very Mediterranean and summery! The teardrops are particularly lovely to me - the distribution of glaze really does look like paint in water, captured.

Lori shared these stunning lampworks with us. I adore the gorgeous colour here too - very watery! I love how the wave shapes on the outside of these naturally highlight and add depth to the delicate Pacific shade. Truly lovely.

Next up, some gorgeous ceramics from Bo Hulley, a ceramic artist based on the Isle of Wight so very much surrounded by water on a daily basis. I am particularly excited by her clouds - what design potential with all of those holes.

Bo and I also have a collaborative project in hand - we work together on unique ceramic and copper clasps. Here's one in my shop, Curious, right now:

Don't you just love this sweet wee seahorse?

Linda of Earthshine Beads (also from the beautiful Isle of Wight) has been creating these lovely shells - wouldn't they look great with Bo's shell buttons? I love the colours Linda has used here, some of my favourites - particularly the lovely Pacific Opal.

Linda has also created this fun lampwork tab, featuring a cute beach hut! This would make a gorgeous, beach-y necklace.

Here are more beach huts, this time from Pippa of Pips's Jewellery. These are such fun colours, and I love the rustic finish Pippa has given these. More fun, beach-y necklaces here! You could even make some pretty, interchangeable pendant necklaces with these - perfect for easy-to-wear summer jewellery.

Natalie of Grubbi is another UK ceramic artist, based in Liverpool - a mere hour away from me in Manchester. Here are some very cool and original pendants from her, featuring raindrops - something we know a lot about here in the North West of England! I love these slightly darkened glazes - they really capture the weather we frequently have in this part of the country.

I love how Lesley Watt, bronze- clay artist, continually develops her work. As well as working with the naked bronze, she not only patinates some of her work with Liver of Sulphur, the natural kiln patina, but also uses coloured patina paints within her component work. How perfect is this turuoqise patina with the seahorse?

I also love this cute fishy. He looks pretty cheeky to me!

Angie of Bead Me Up Buttercup shared these beautiful pacific polymer clay bracelet bars. Yes, they are floral and palmy - reminiscent of tropical, beach-side flora....but just look at her colour inspiration! This very cool, vintage swimming pool. Those waters look pretty inviting....

And last, but certainly not least, lampwork glass artist Cecilia of Midget Gem Beads shared this beautiful lampwork heart, complete with a mini rock pool scene. Love the vibrant orange starfish here, and the swirling wave to one side.

She also shared these gorgeous tidal pendants! I love these - the colours, textures and depth pf these lovely pendants. I can see some really sophisticated pieces coming from these.

I hope you have found this month's water beads inspiring - I know I have. Many new artists, as well as familiar favourites. So inspiring to see such a range of styles, aesthetics materials. I love the beads that you share here, it is great to see what our readers are creating and I'd love to see more!

Next month, I'd love you to share animal beads with us.....any animals, or beads relating to animals....leave your links in the comments below!

And now the Bead Blogger Links. Have a great Sunday!

What are YOU making for spring? Stop by A Bead A Day to share.

Innovation and beads go together, and this new book reviews gives you the 411 all about it.

Rebecca shares some handmade bead artists from her native shores of Britain with Art Bead Scene readers!

Incorporating t-shirt yarn (tarn) with other fibers will result in some gorgeous necklaces if you use a kumihimo disk to braid them.

Rubberstamps will get a new life in the jewelry studio if you work with Jewelry Clay!

Jean uses DIY videos (see a cool example of one) to help her learn jewelry techniques, but long ago the best way to learn was from an expert teacher like Eni Oken. See jean's Wabi Sabi ring inspired by Eni!
