Studio Saturday with Jennifer Jangles

Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you'll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner. Congratulations Malin De Koning , you won on of Cindy's Wired Red Lotus Pods. .

This week we are in the studio of Jennifer Jangles.

Hi everyone, last month I was working on setting up my new studio and store. Guess what...I am still working on it! I feel like I am making great progress, but I have to admit, I had no idea what was involved with doing this. The studio was up and running enough to make beads and buttons right away. It's all the little things that I am still working on. Last week I tackled the gallery display. I will be making work and filling the store as I go. I thought if I got the "bones" of the space all ready, it would be much easier.

This is what I did...

First I had really dirty and ugly peel and stick tile on the floor, but since the space is rented I didn't want to tear anything up. I bought vinyl the size of the shop and taped it down. Did you know they sell double sided tape especially for vinyl flooring? If I had known that I would of changed floors in most of my studios. It was a really inexpensive fix.

Next I hit the restore, after taking inventory of what I had for displays. I found a large metal book shelf for 10.00 and a corner desk cabinet that was solid wood for 75.00. To make the place all flow, I painted everything white. I really wanted my bright work to shine, not the fixtures. I did decide on one accent color. I need some large pops of color. I, of course, choose lime green. Actually it's called lemon grass. I could paint my entire house in it I love it so much.

I figured by the time it's my turn for studio Saturday again the store will be up and running. Yikes, I can't believe that! But I am working on some Art Bead Scene posts for in the meantime on display ideas. I have been playing around with all sorts of ideas and thought I would share some with you.
My question for this week is about color. If you had to choose one for your signature color, what would it be?

Leave me a comment and you could win one of my new spring bead sets.

And if you want to win more...I started a contest today on my blog that runs until Monday. It's called "Guess What's in the Box?"

Happy Saturday!

Jennifer Jangles

Your studio looks great! I love how the little touches of green really bring it to life.

I find that I keep coming back to the color blue--in all shades. Can't seem to keep away from it.

Wow! What a great necklace. I love the cicada - it takes me back to my childhood where we would pinch the cicada husks onto our clothes like brooches.

I've always thought of my signature colour being a bright sahde of pink.. although somedays I think it should be more raspberry... and yet, time and time again I realize that the colour I use most if purple. How does that make sense? ;)

I think mt signature color is.......well its a group of colors, I tend to gravitate towards fall colors, coppers, bronzes, golds, firey reds, could be because I am a fire sign....and as I get older I like them even more, I used to be uncomfortable with reds, guess I had to grow into them

One color. It would have to be a shade of bluey green. Something that if you look at it, you have to think, is that blue or is that green? Soft watery, mossy tranquil.

You are very brave with color, I wish I had that much confidence with color. Really cute.

Your studio is looking great! I love the pops of color. It is hard to say what our signature color is. I love yellow, which I just painted my kitchen this week. But I would think mom and I gravitate towards deep rich colors.

Wow!
I won them!
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy about that.
Thank you thank you thank you!

My signature colour would be green. One which is kind of between kelly green and lime green, sort of.

And Jennifer, I really like the bead sets you have for sale in your Etsy shop. I marked a few of them as my favourites the other day.

Thanks for the tip about the vinyl floor, I'll look into that myself.

All my best,
Malin

Blue would definitely have to be my signature color. Even if I go out bead shopping with the intention of buying a different color, I find something in blue that I just HAVE to have. I can't help it. Beads just look prettier in blue.

My signature color would be orange or bright yellow. There's just a funkiness about them that I think expresses my attitude towards life.

I love your shop! The black and white floors are comtemporary yet classic and bright colored patterns just POP!

My favorite used to be pink and red hues. I didn't like blue...that is until my house was populated with 4 boys. They have persuaded me and now I have the blues! (in a good way) I always seem to gravitate to those blue beads especially aqua and turqoise.

Your studio looks amazing!! It's so lively and bright! My signature color would have to be fuschia. I have several pairs of fuschia shoes, a purse, tons of tops. I just gravitate towards it. Funny thing is I don't work with it a lot in my jewelry but I sure do wear it a lot! :-)

Wow this looks great! My "ONE" color would be aqua blue/green. My studio is yellow walls, white fixtures and aqua blue/green painterly countertops and yellow and aqua tile checkerboard floor.

Your new studio looks fantastic! I think color is a major factor in a room. The black and white with the pop of lime green must instantly give you a spark of enthusiam and creativity.
My favorite color combinations are black and white with the punch of chartreuse to complete look.
Best of luck in your new digs.

The studio is amazing. You selected my signature color. I make jewelry on the side, but am an attorney to pay the bills. I moved my office into my home as the economy in my area is so depressed. I used green as my accent color to bring out the beautiful wood from my 76 year old home. I didn't have the option of painting as the walls are stucco in that area.

Your studio is looking so delightful! My signature color is rust orange especially--and all autumn colors.

Love your studio!
My signature color is close to your's - poison green.

My colour would be blue - like the sky, the sea... it's so serene.

EDIT: For some reason, OpenID isn't working. Is it me or is anyone else having this problem?

The studio is coming along great. I like what you've done so far, and can't wait to see it finished.
If I had to pick just one signature color, I think I'd go with a taupe linen color. It's neutral, but not beige. I use a lot of Vintaj brass, and it looks great on that "color".

I choose a bright lavender slash pink. It is not my favorite color but it works great in my studio. Blue is my favorite and that was my color choice the last time I revamped my studio. The only thing with that color choice is it put you to sleep. lol I needed something this time that would not do that. The lime greed you choose works well in your studio. Mine is not that big. It is in my home and much smaller, but I was able to make it a functional and warm place to work. It makes me want to be in it all the time and that is the best part. Thanks for asking.
