Studio Saturday with Shannon LeVart

graphic by golhart

Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you'll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.
The winner for last weeks offering of Helen Harle's Create Colorful Aluminum Jewelry is Imaginative Jewelry!
Congratulations! Please email Tari your address so she can ship that off to you.

Now it's my turn to share a bit of my studio(s) with you! Here in the chaotic, confused, bumbling world of missficklemedia, there is occasionally something of value to share. I am happy the Studio Saturday I get to do is on this special day. I LOVE New Years! Love it Love it Love it! To me, and probably many others, a new year is embraced with all the hopeful expectancy of a child at Christmas. What is coming in this new year? What changes will I experience? What will I learn? Who will I help?  What challenges will I overcome and how will I grow as a person? And really, most importantly, what will I make? :)
I am already working on acquiring the tools and materials for my next big project for 2011. But I can't share that yet, it's a secret. I did however promise myself that in addition to eating better for the next year I will use the supplies I already have in my possession. All the little odds-n-ends that have accumulated and piled up will be designed into jewelry, given away or sold.

Less than perfect fine silver pendants are layered with copper bits, crystals and chain for inexpensive but lovely charm necklaces.
Left over beads will be used for bangles and tassel necklaces.
Ceramic face bead by Gaea.

And complimenting color combination's of patina-ted components, ceramic beads, free form stones and silk will be photographed and listed as de-stash bundles for the online shop.
Golden Peridot Ginkgo paired with macarrolls Metallic Ceramic Beads.
Which brings us to the give-away for this Studio Saturday! What are you looking forward to in this New Year? What fresh hope does 2011 bring you? Please share with us in the comment section of this post and next Saturday your name will entered into a drawing for a chance to win this Golden Peridot Ginkgo Bundle.

So here's to sloughing off the old and embracing the new! Raise your glass and give a CHEER! 2011 is here!
Have a Happy New Year from all of us here at Art Bead Scene Blog.

Much Love & Respect,
Shannon

Hope is everywhere in 2011! I am embracing metal work this year to tie in with my lampwork beads. I love this idea! That will be my challenge for 2011.

Well, I was thinkign that there are many beading techniques I want to try out, but it was difficult deciding on which one to focus first. I skipped the reading fo the giveaway winner first, and when I remembered not reading it, came back to find out I am the winner of "Create Colorful Alumminum Jewelry" YAYYYYY
So this will be the technique I will try to play with first in 2011.

Shannon, I love the necklaces and use of bits an pieces. I have so many of them. I also like to use them in bag charms and or key chains.

Happy new year!

I really really plan to Finish every project I start rather than setting one aside half finished to begin another!!!

Shannon, your pieces are lovely! I can't wait to hear about your secret project for 2011.

As for me, I'm going to try to be more organized, focused, and on track in 2011. This past year had me flitting from one big project to another, and the entire year seemed chaotic. I want to enjoy what I do and feel pride and joy rather than stress and frustration.

Happy New Year to you!

Try a few of the many new techniques I have marked in books or on my computer. I collect so much, it's overwhelming to try them all. So, maybe just a few.

Oh, believe it or not, my studio is at the moment finally coming together the way I want it to be. A new good higher wall-to-wall table, new better lighting, lots of shelves and other storage places.

A workarea that will work for me basically. So I am looking forward to it being so much easier for me to produce a lot more, and I am hoping to sell as well.

All in order for me to be able to buy lots and lots of hand-made beads and supplies from great and talented artisans around the world. And then produce more and sell more ...

I love the prize and the bangle bracelets.

Bead wise, I am hoping to kick my work up a notch this year - pay more attention to finish details, design, colour.

Regular life wise, we're all taking steps here to become more active in the New Year. Baby steps :)

I made plans to contribute to my art a little each day, challenge my self artistically, keep up my blog with weekly posts and take better pictures. As you know from this post, I'm not in my studio, but out surfing. So, Shannon, having read your post and reaffirming my goals for the year, I'm down to the studio...

I am hoping the price of silver will come down in 2011. And also hoping for much less medical bills! We'll see how that works out...

More work on my book in 2011, not jewelry, but my experiences as a high school teacher.

Making more jewelry. Improving my very weak Spanish. Just having a great time in general. Trying to worry less.

Hello Shannon, I am glad to see the end of 2010 as it was personally a difficult year. I have high hopes for 2011 and will be trying to infuse more creativity and challenge into my jewelry and art.

I'm hoping to find more of a balance in my life. I want to be able to have time for exercise, running, jewelry making, trying new techniques/classes, hanging out with family and friends, working, and all the things I want to do without spending too much time on any one area of my life. I am definitely looking forward to making the most out of this new year!

Also, I love your idea of using what you already have, and I think it is a good goal for me, as I love to continue to collect supplies and tools, but never get around to using them.

I look forward to the clean slate that New Years brings. A new appointment book, taxes finished and a new checkbook register. I am a little ocd in that way so these things make me happy. I am looking forward to some classes and focusing more on my online stores.

I hope that I will have more time to think and BE and practice and create...in order to do this I have to start saying no to some things! I also hope that 2011 will bring much health and happiness to those wround me; both in the 'real' world and the virtual one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Shannon!

I hope to be creative in my writing while finishing up my graduate coursework. The beading is going to have to be on the backburner while I do that, unfortunately.

In my personal life I hope to find a new job, take better care of both my physical health & mental health.

On the creative side I want to do a 180% turn to more wire work and metalwork, fiber arts, bead embriodery and increase and add new ones to the classes I teach. And finish all my beadweaving WIP's and jewelry repairs.

Whew! I hope that's not too much.
Happy New Years to all!

I need to use what I have (I say this as I'm awaiting two packages of beads in tomorrow's mail-sigh), and declutter. I also want to increase inventory in my shop. Actually, I have lots of completed work, but I need to find time to photograph, edit and write copy for it all.

Wishing everyone a Bead-utiful New Year!

To clean, organize and try working with polymer clay, alchol inks and bezels. I might also try resin and working with more fibers/textiles.

I am going to try to work up the nerve to submit my designs to some publications this year. I think the thrill of seeing one of my designs professionally photographed and printed would be worth however many rejections I might get.

Looks like I missed a great Giveaway :{ Never enough of Miss Fickle's creations! Love that ginko leaf. Looks like everyone is in a de-clutter mood and mode, well, me too! I like Shannon's ideas for using up leftovers. Someone's leftovers are someone else's main course!
